Viridas have their own fully owned subsidiary, Virida Brasil Agronegocios Ltda, based in Sao Paulo to oversee it's Brazilian activities.

Brazil is the ideal country for the establishment of Jatropha groves.

  • Sustainable land is readily available. Out of 394m hectares of arable land available for agriculture, only 66m hectares are currently under cultivation.
  • Sun is a major input when the process is essentially one of energy capture. Brazil has on average 3/4hrs sunshine in the rainy season and 7/8hrs in the summer months.
  • Rain in Brazil is more than adequate to make special irrigation unnecessary.
  • Land in Brazil is very fertile.
  • Indigenous expertise exists in depth due to long history of commercial agriculture related to soya, sugar cane and coffee industries.
  • Political stability is another advantage.
  • Roads, though not excellent are serviceable and being improved.
  • Deep water ports are excellent.
  • Financially sophisticated with a modern, sophisticated banking system.
  • Sound market economy supported by all major political parties.
  • Knowledge background of agricultural research institutes, government and university research departments which have grown to support the Brazils large agro-business.
  • Investment status. In 2008/09 Brazil is expected to be awarded investment status. This will further add to the investment attraction of the country.
