Because commercial cultivation of Jatropha is so very recent there is still a lot be learnt as to how best it should be cultivated, and there is still a lot be done to produce seeds with the best yields. Until more is known about mechanical picking techniques there is real uncertainty as to what would be the optimum planting configuration.
Over the next few years improved seeds are expected to increase yields from 1.7 tonnes per Hectare to 2.7tonnes per Hectare. With current research and development rapidly producing seeds with greatly improved yields, there are certain advantages in waiting a while before planting large tracts of land. |
